January is the month of sales right? We didn’t have a mattress sale in January.

Besides, January felt as though it lasted a really long time. February is flying. Still, we know that the start of the year can leave people feeling a little blue. The weather is rubbish, summer is months away, and we’re still skint from Christmas.

If you’re anything like us, all you want to do is sleep. Sounds like a fabulous idea, right? But perhaps your bedroom needs a little overhaul.

Next, walls

Papering your walls can really alter the atmosphere of your bedroom. We’re partial to a nice patterned wallpaper, but there are styles and colours galore in the Debenhams wallpaper sale.

Bedspreads

Nothing dresses a bedroom like a bedspread. If you shop around, you can find bedspreads on sale somewhere almost all of the time. Right now, Dunelm has a great sale on selected bedspreads.

We really like this green floral number, reduced from £55 to £38.50.

If you’re happy with your bedspread, why not look to accessorise it with sale items instead? This knitted throw is reduced by 50% in charcoal and would look perfect tossed on a bed or thrown decoratively over a chair. 

Sleep aids

Sleep aids come in all shapes and sizes, but not all are created equal. We don’t recommend you use unnatural sleep aids unless recommended by your doctor, so steer clear of pills and other medications if you can. The good news is that if you are struggling to snooze, there are lots of natural sleep aids out there to try, some on sale right now.

Lighting 

Lighting is very important. First and foremost, your bedroom should only have blue-free lights. Lightbulbs with blue light in them ruin your circadian rhythm and make your body think it’s daytime when it isn’t. You can find blue-free lightbulbs on the internet and in most lighting stores. 

Once you have those, you need the perfect light fixture. Debenhams have a sale on lights and lamps at the moment, and you can find everything from traditional to contemporary styles. 

If you can’t afford to overhaul your bedroom in one go, we recommend you prioritise the parts of your room that might help you sleep, such as your new mattress, blue-free lighting, and sleep aids. It’s a marathon, not a sprint; so take your time, plan things carefully, and by the end of the year you’ll have the beautiful, purse-friendly bedroom of your dreams.
