A toxic-free mattress is made without the use of harmful chemicals or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These chemicals or vapours – which can often be present in a mattress made from foam – have been argued as unsafe for your health and the environment.

Many mattresses are made using chemical adhesives, flame retardants, and chemical dyes. These are cheap ways to create an affordable mattress. However, if these chemicals are used to make a mattress they can be released over time. This means you could be breathing in these VOCs and harmful chemicals each night while you sleep.

Health issues

Common health issues associated with these chemicals can include headaches or nose, throat, and eye irritation. Certain VOCs have also been linked to several more serious health conditions and risks, including links to certain cancers, organ damage, and fertility problems.

These may ensure the mattress is safe from a flame-resistant perspective, but as we have previously discussed, these chemicals are unnecessary, and can be harmful for your health and the environment.
