We often clean and wash our bedding, sheets, blankets and duvet, but have you considered cleaning your mattress? Did you know that you spend roughly around a third of your life lying on a mattress?
Therefore, it is recommended that you use a compatible and breathable mattress protector. It helps with the cleaning your mattress process, and you can remove dust mites and bacteria a lot easier.
Mattresses can, over time, collect a load of dead skin cells, sweat, stains, dust mites, crumbs and all manner of other things. Despite linens and mattress protectors, you still need to periodically clean the thing you sleep on every night—at least once every six months if you sleep on it every day. Follow these steps, and rest easy in the knowledge that your bed is fully hygienic.
Once you have put your bed sheets, linen and mattress cover to wash, (following the label instructions) the next thing to do is to use a vacuum cleaner across the top and sides of your Ely mattress. You’ll get rid of those crisp crumbs from late night munching sessions, along with any other dirt, pet hair, and dust that’s accrued over the months.
Your next task is to pay attention to any stains on your mattress. How you clean, and what you use to clean the mattress, will depend on the type of stain you’re looking at. Unless you were unfortunate enough to have spilled red wine or coffee in bed, then anybody fluids can be cleaned easily (we’re talking: sweat, urine, blood).
Here are some of options for removing these types of stains from a mattress:
Scatter a thin layer of baking soda over the complete surface and let it sit for a couple of hours minimum. The longer you leave it, the better it will take out any scent. It will absorb any excess liquid from the stain removal process discussed above too. This is a handy step which will leave your mattress smelling fresh and hygienic. After some hours, use the vacuum again to remove the baking soda and be sure to get to all the mattress crevices.
An Ely mattress is unique in that we have given you twice the fillings, so you can enjoy a restful sleep for longer. The best way to ensure that happens is to let the fillings underneath have a chance to breathe by being on the top from time to time. We recommend rotating your mattress once a month and flipping it once every two months. This will help keep your fillings even and increase the life of your mattress.
If you don’t have a mattress cover or protector, now is a good time to get one. They are an imperative line of defence against future dirt and stains and can be thrown into the washing machine on a regular basis. We are proud to offer the Guardsman Luxury Mattress Protector. Check it out under the ‘Shop Now’ page. We also offer a 5-year Accidental Damage Cover when you purchase the Ely Mattress and select the Guardsman Luxury Mattress Protector. Or if you are just looking for a quality mattress protector, you can buy it on its own to cover your existing mattress.
How often should I clean my mattress?
Your mattress should be cleaned every few months – even every six months is a good indication because over time we shed skin, hair and all sorts onto a mattress. Keep your mattress fresh and clean by not only taking care of the bedding but also following the above tips on cleaning your mattress twice a year. Note, that different types of mattresses are more breathable than others, so other makes may need cleaning more often.
