Some will consider their bedroom as the most important room in their home. After all, we spend time to relax and unwind in that room, and restful sleeping is key to optimal health. When walking into a spotlessly clean and tidy bedroom you instantly get a feeling of contentment, like no other. Plus, there’s something about the smell of clean bedsheets and an inviting comfortable bed, and the look of a clutter-free bedroom to help you catch those much-needed zzz’s.
It’s time to get your spring-cleaning game on. Open your bedroom windows, allow the spring breeze to enter your bedroom and air it out, ready for you to tackle every nook and cranny to get your bedroom feeling fresh. Leaving your resting space messy and dirty can mean that you are compromising the quality of your slumber. With some simple changes, you can turn your bedroom into a tranquil sleep sanctuary that will set you up for the restorative sleep that you want and deserve every night.
Ely Mattress recommend a deep clean and dust of your room. This will help get rid of allergens and hopefully prevent those spring sniffles. Sometimes it’s easy to forget some of the less obvious places, so make sure to follow this guide:
Begin by taking off your bedsheets, duvet cover and pillow cases and throw them into the washing machine with washing powder and fabric softener. Once these are washed, dried and aired, you can then consider washing your duvet. You should only wash your duvet at most once a year to avoid the duvet losing its shape. Unless it comes with instructions on how to wash, we recommend that you wash the duvet on a gentle cycle, and make sure all the soap is washed out – run two cycles for this to ensure that all soap suds are fully rinsed out of the puffy fabric. Then put the duvet into the dryer.
Did you know: To retain your duvet’s puffy feel, you should add a couple of tennis balls in with your duvet when drying.
Keep your sheet sets together by folding both the flat and fitted sheets inside the matching pillowcase. No more mix-up, you’ll always know which sheet belongs to which set. Pile each according to size for extra organisation. (twin, double, queen, king).
Use a lint roller over a material or velvet-based headboard to take off any dust and then use a damp cloth with anti-bacterial spray to lightly wipe the headboard.
Did you know: To test if your pillows need replacing, fold your pillow in half lengthways and hold it this way for 30 seconds. When you let go, the pillow should spring back to its original shape. If the pillow stays folded, you should throw it out. Lumps and bumps on your pillow are also good pointers that it is time to shop for a new one.
For the best sleep, you need a mattress that will align your spine and give you the right support. Have you considered replacing your old mattress for an Ely Mattress? Why would you want to do that, you may ask.

If you’re looking to get some more wear out of your old mattress, we recommend you clean your mattress using our mattress cleaning guide.
Use these mattress-cleaning instructions to remove stains and get your mattress looking new. If it’s already in great shape, take the upholstery attachment of your vacuum and use it across the top and sides of the mattress then flip and rotate it. Vacuum the top again.
This should be done seasonally. If you don’t remember the last time you did it, it’s probably time to clean your mattress!
Move any bedside cabinets and other furniture that can easily be moved and vacuum all over the floor. Avoid trying to go around items, that can easily be moved. Dust can collect everywhere so it’s best to be as thorough as possible. This will pick up any debris, hairs, dust and make your room feel cleaner within minutes.
Did you know: If you vacuum up a handful of washing powder into the vacuum cleaner before you continue with the rest of the floor, then the vacuum tends to give off a fresh detergent scent?
Do a thorough vacuum of your bedroom making sure to include the wardrobe floors, curtains and under any furniture. If you have floorboards, then your next job is to mop the floor to ensure it is super clean. Add some Zoflora disinfectant or special floor cleaner to hot water to ensure that the floor is left sparkling.
Use some anti-bacterial spray to clean and wipe all the surfaces in your bedroom. Use this list to ensure you haven’t missed any spots:
Creating the perfect bedroom temperature is important for sleeping well. Being hot while you’re sleeping can wake you (and your partner), especially if you get sweaty. The Ely mattress helps control body temperature because we don’t use foam in our mattresses. People often overheat due to foam mattresses having the inability to eradicate heat quickly. To solve this problem, Ely is providing mattresses with pure Dorset wool, horse hair, soft cotton, silk and cashmere which will let your body breathe. Investing in the right mattress is a need, not a preference.
Further to this, Ely recommends that you keep your bedroom temperature cool – all the sleep experts say optimum temperature is ideally between 60- and 67-degrees Fahrenheit, all year long to help you sleep well. Consider fitting a ceiling fan to keep the air circulating. When lying in bed trying to snooze, your body temperature decreases to initiate sleep—and the proposed temperatures above can help permit this. If your room is cool, rather than warm, it will be much easier to drift off to sleep and stay asleep.
To create a soothing environment, keep your bedstand, wardrobes, and dresser organised, and remove piles of magazines, letters, receipts, clothes, or other items from around your bed. That doesn’t mean that you must go completely minimalist—it’s fine to keep some books and comforting scents within arm’s reach. Just be sure to remove visual disorder, which can feel stressful when you’re trying to unwind.
